Behind the Scenes Notes for Remnants Chapter 43

Okay, time to finish up the Schism/Secession storyline. I gotta be honest, I plowed through this chapter so fast mainly because I've had it in my head so long, I desperately needed to get it out. I've also been so buried in my own work the past few months, trying my best to manage my stress levels and not lose my creative boost that I was feeling. Point is, I managed it and here we are. The next chapter marching us towards the inevitable finale. Let's talk about it.

Notes for Remnants Chapter 38

Hey! No Split this time! Ain't that something! And better yet, I managed to keep the page count reasonable as well! And the next chapter should be more or less the same, it's also almost done. So we're getting back in the groove I think! To celebrate, how about some Behind the Scenes for this chapter?

Notes for Remnants Chapter 36 Parts 1 & 2

I think a few people thought I was putting myself down a bit more than I actually was to be honest, so before I start let me assure you, I'm just trying to boost my spirits without swelling my head. I didn't like the idea of splitting this one up, but the chapter just got so long and the time between updates had been sufficient enough that it seemed necessary. I'm hopeful I'll be fixing that soon as I continue the work going forward. For now, lets talk a little about what happened in this chapter.

Remnants-Chapter 33 Author Notes (Also an Opinion Piece)

We’re alive again, there’s no real special excuse this time. Honestly I’m not happy with how I’ve been unable to keep my promise to get back on schedule this past year. It’s just been one thing after another where my personal time is not up to the job at hand, distractions and just plain creative slumps I’m starting to get over gradually. But we’re back, we have a new chapter, another one soon after that and I’m attempt to stimulate myself creatively through other minor projects. Also, new keyboard! Less annoying than the last one! So maybe fewer mistakes, we can hope.

I do want to make up for the lack of content though and I know a lot of you are probably itching to ask the same question concerning a certain show based off a certain game this fanfic is dedicated 50% towards. Well like all of you I have opinions. So to get this out of the way and so I won’t have to answer the same questions concerning it over and over, here is my lengthy general response about the Halo TV Series... and why I refused to watch it.

Author Notes for Remnants: Chapter 27

It's been a while again, and that's all on me for one reason or another. I'm not really blaming anyone but myself here as I could've gotten so much more work done by now but didn't. However, we are back again and I intend to make the most of it. So I hope you enjoyed our latest action packed chapter and that you're interested in some behind the scenes stuff.

Remnants Chapter 26 - Behind the Scenes Notes

So we got a few things to go over and it's probably best to just get into it. Mainly because, well it has been a while and I feel I need to really talk about a few things. Don't worry, othing like "I give up" or "I quit", no nothing like that. Never. Just stuff that honestly, there are things I feel like I need to talk about this stuff.

It's been quite a few months. You  wanted answers to the last cliffhanger, here they are.

Remnants - Chapter 24 - Behind the Scenes Notes

These massive breaks are becoming troublesome to me. I can't say what the problem is other than emotional toll of various things. Also family related stuff, just wanting to work on other projects, distractions in other things. It's all very annoying and I'm not happy with how long this stuff is taking. I'm hoping to correct that.

As for Chapter 24, best to get started now.

Remnants Chapter 23 Author's Notes

It's been too long and honestly the only one to blame has been myself. I didn't stop writing, but various issues or events or just in general concerns about a few miscellanous things got in the way. It wasn't intended, I didn't like it, but I just couldn't write what I wanted. A lot of that got sorted, thankfully, in due course, but for the most part I was just in general infuriated or distracted by too much to get things off the ground the way I wanted them to be. But I've finally made some real headway and I think I'm prepared to real buckle down on things going forward. On Remnants, The Lucen Side-Story, (Which will also be updated soon) and some original projects I've been meaning to get on paper.

But, let's focus on this chapter for now.

Behind the Scenes - Remnants Chapter 22 Notes

I have a lot more to say about the next chapter than this one, but I'll give you all a quick rundown of what happens here that I enjoyed.

Remnants - Chapter Sixteen Notes

This one should've come out sooner honestly. But between getting the proper tone down, wanting to get more ahead and finish the actual Reach plot and then a damn infection that left me in pain for a little over two weeks, I couldn't get shit done. Ugh, well, the process for this has been grueling and I feel like I'll have more to say about next chapter than this one, but you guys deserve the full treatment in any case. So, here we go...

Author Notes for Remnants - Chapter Fourteen

Okay, we got a lot to cover for this chapter. Like a ton of stuff. Maiden stuff, Miranda stuff, lots of Tali stuff, horror tropes, the works. So lets just get going already.

Remnants - Behind the Scenes - Chapter 13

So, we dive back into horror full blown here and not the usual zombie or slasher stuff we've sorta gotten used to. We got ourselves Psychological Thrills this time. My favorite kind! Hostel can go screw itself, because blood and guts isn't scary just on its own and I hope I proved that you can be ten times more freaky as hell with out a single drop of blood spilt. So, lets break it down...

Remnants Notes for Chapter 11

I said a lot on things concerning this chapter that were talked about last notes section. So I'll be quick about this. Mainly because I'm not in the best of moods right now, but mostly because there is little to talk about that isn't spoilers.

So there is a heavy horror aesthetic here, as many noticed, but really the big objective here was to pair off certain characters and see how they interact. As well as introduce a few more ancilliary characters I can bring in for future scenes so I actually have a better supporting cast. I've been meaning to give more batarians and jackals proper names. But it just took until now to make it a reality.

Remnants - Author Notes on Chapter 9

After a long absence, the resolution to the mystery. Apologies for the wait, but I hope it gave you plenty of time to consider all the clues regardless. Now, best not to get into spoilers yet. If you still haven't read the chapter, you should probably do that before continuing.

Done? Good. Let's start.

Behind the Scenes of Remnants Chapter Six

This is going to be a quick one, since this chapter is largely just set up for some future events. Although not distant future in any sense, but still there. Mostly this just gives everyone a breather to reflect on their current positions in the narrative. That and it has some fun elements I wanted to introduce.

Behind the Scenes of "Star Wars: Force of Nature" - Part 8

Secrets Revealed: I’m sure some of you by now have noticed a few interesting easter egs I’ve hidden here and there. Names of characters, some of the callsigns and protocol designations being significant dates and more than likely the titles of each chapter. At this point you’ve probably figured out what theme I was using. Every chapter, save for the final one, is titled after a line from a Universal Monster Movie. The final chapter of course is named after the song that heavily referenced those same films as well as what the crossover films were called by fans. I’m not going to spoil it which titles are from what movie, but if you can correctly name the film each came from as well the character and actor who said them then you’ll have my undying respect. So long as you can figure out the films at least without Googling them.

Behind the Scenes of "Star Wars: Force of Nature" - Part 7

Zillo-Beast Rejects: These guys were born from an idea I have concerning Kaiju movies in general. You know how people say the human stories are boring half the time because they’re doing nothing? They come around and all they do is talk at length and are ultimately ineffectual. At it’s worst, all we want at some point is to just get to the monster battle. In a lot of ways I sympathize with that, but at the same time one has to acknowledge that you can’t just have the big monster fight. It would be one big spectacle low on story or effects. We need the humans to add more story, to discuss exposition, set up plot points, everything that makes the movie have an actual narrative. Unless you want to have Godzilla talk, you don’t have a choice. The humans are needed in that way.

Behind the Scenes of "Star Was: Force of Nature" - Part 6

Ahsoka and Kanan: This was something I suspected is going to be a plot point for the future season and was all but confirmed in the first crop of episodes. That Kanan isn’t big on being part of an army and that Ahsoka would be fundamentally different from him in a number of ways. They can cooperate, but I imagine their different personalities and beliefs would clash inevitably. After all, their exits from the Order were wildly different. Ahsoka wasn’t a Jedi when it happened, she had no master to lose by that point. She was also a military commander for far longer whereas Kanan’s time fighting the Clone Wars abruptly ended as soon as he started. She’s used to being an army, he only remembers what an army did to his friends and loved ones. While they both had to hide, Kanan abandoned the Jedi way for a long time before getting back onto the path. Ahsoka has probably been fighting or preparing to fight this war longer than he has.

Behind the Scenes of "Star Wars: Force of Nature" - Part 5

Jedi and Animals: So this was a lucky bit of information I came across a few months ago. I suspected Jedi could talk to animals given what I saw in Clone Wars, but Rebels pretty much confirmed it. Of course, Godzilla is no ordinary animal so I suspected it wouldn’t work the way it does with others. I suspected this would be a more involved effort on the part of any Jedi and that one would have to actually break through the mental barriers surrounding Godzilla’s mind. Luckily, Godzilla also has a history of psychics and telepathic empaths who all now and then try to speak to him or interpret him for others. Miki from the Heisei era comes to mind most readily.

Behind the Scenes of "Star Wars: Force of Nature" - Part 4

I really enjoyed this chapter, if only because I got to do some of my favorite scenes to write. Dogfights are always fun to do, coming up with moves and attacks in an open environment is very creatively stimulating. Of course, a lot of the moves I wrote down have to come from somewhere. Usually its from a documentary I watched about real dogfights. Sometimes it comes from something I did in a game. Overall, inspiration came come from anywhere and if done well it can be a lot of fun.
